Leela the Riveter by Gulliver63 Leela the Riveter by Gulliver63
I'm still in this 1940's Warner Brothers kick, and what could be more iconic of that era but the famous Rosie the Riveter poster. Actually we picture Leela in the thick of the combat, but she could just as easily use a rivet gun for a 12-hour shift. Look at those cannons! BTW, here is the original Rosie done by J. Howard Miller in 1942 [link] for Westinghouse Company. It was truly fun doing this picture, as Corel let me use the same colors as are on the original poster. So just keep in mind that "we can do it" - what that might be is up to you. And remember - buy war bonds so Zapp can defeat those horrible Tarantuloids...

BTW, the original Rosie had a button with her daughter's picture on her collar...note the Nibbler button.

Thanks! Last year I got out of a terrible job situation...Leela was like my patron saint. I used to put her image up on whiteboards with the words "You gotta do what you gotta do." It was sort of like writing "Kilroy was here." [link]

Thanks! It fit in so nicely with the stories. She finds her beloved Cyclops planet, but it almost causes more problems than it solves. The society is clan based, much like feudal Japan. She finds out that she is a member of one of the most powerful families on the planet, but also that her family was wiped out in a clan war. The whole thing starts with "The Last Turanga," which I wrote 2 years ago. [link]

This is way cool :) the first thing I thought of was:
Zapp- "Oh, I've never been so relieved to be beat up by a woman!"
Leela- "We should do it again sometime."

Thanks! There is so much good humor that has come from those two. "The jack-ass wants to see you - and he wants you to wear this."

Haha yeah... gotta love all that banter! "Leela, are you there?" "No!" "Ooooh yes you are!"

I read somewhere (I wish I could remember where) that Zapp is "40% Kirk, 60% Shatner," and I thought it was hysterical.

Thanks! I was really surprised to see how popular Rosie really was. I had been playing with sketches of the Futurama characters in the 1940's.

I was originally planning a bigger one with four of the characters set in the 1940's - I still may do it yet.

I have a lot of respect for Obama. I still have very bitter feelings over the last administration and the Iraq War. I very much admired how Obama was able to make something of himself after starting to travel down the wrong road.

Same here. I'm impressed that he ended two wars that were started, somewhat jump started the econmy (Still needs a kick, but it's an odd thing), and did that whole assassinate Sadam and not tell us. If it had been leaked, i don't think it would have worked. His slogan, however, needs work, if it's just Yes we can. That can be used for lots of things.
